8747 Shipping Container Home Gets Radiant Flooring Installed

Marti’s container home is coming along nicely. Her house now has radiant tubing in place and all the structural containers and openings are done. This is great to see one’s dreams come to reality and we wish the crew all the best and continued success in completing this container home. You can track her progress here.

Hi. I am a commercial-sector carpenter, so work a lot more with steel, aluminum and concrete than wood. I am looking to build a home at an affordable price, all of which brings me to shipping containers as a serious consideration. I’ve been examining some of the structural modifications (esp. like the second photo here), and have to ask: after removing large sections of wall, what reinforcement is necessary to maintain the integrity of the roof? Could other units be stacked above these? Is there any live/dead load numbers available? Any response would be appreciated. Thanks for getting out there any making it happen!–SDJ
